Engagement of an athlete
In Maxithlon the athletes can enter in your club in 3 different ways:
- Youth Squad of your club
- Free Market; every week various athletes enter the free market, and you can buy them
- Market; Sold by other clubs
If the athlete bought is older than 18, when he signs the contract, he receives a bonus equal to his weekly salary.
Characteristics of the athletes
Every athlete has their own specific characteristics. Each of these characteristics has a different type of influence on the performance and the behavior of the athlete. The range that Maxithlon uses for differentiating an athlete from another one is from 1 to 20.
You cannot have more than 60 athletes in your team. If you have 61 or more athletes, the next day there will be an automatic defection of the athlete with the lowest mood from your club. You must be very careful to never go over 60 because you risk losing an important athlete from your club only because at that time he has low mood. Your club has also an "hatchery", in which there are the athletes pulled from the Youth Squad. The hatchery is allowed to hold a maximum of 5 athletes; when it is full and a new athlete arrives, the athlete with the lowest moral in the hatchery will automatically go away, without any warning. It's therefore a good idea to always leave some space available for the new arrivals.
Every athlete can be sprinter, middle distance runner, long distance runner, race-walker, jumper or thrower. Each of these specialties has two additional technical characteristics and they are for the sprinters Acceleration and Reflex, for the middle distance runners there is Tactics and Final Sprint, the long distace runners have Endurance and Continuity, for the race-walkers Technique and Pace, the jumpers have Take-off and Elasticity, and throwers have Jerk and Coordination. Each of the skills influence the performance of the athlete in the specific competition. The choice of specialty doesn't force the athlete to participate only in the competitions predisposed to that specialty, but obviously he will be at a disadvantage for the lack of special technical skills. Example: sprinters can often do well in the long jump, but for the lack of Take-off and Elasticity their performances will probably be lower compared to an athlete jumper.
During the choice of the specialty, the athlete will receive these two additional skills with a random value that is influenced by the Moral of the athlete. The specialty of the athlete can be selected or changed only once every ten weeks. The specialty of athletes that are 25 years old or older can not be changed anymore.

You can decide a minimum asking price by entering a value in the box. Change Specialty
With change specialty you can alter the specialty of the athlete which is essential to his training and performances. Specialty can be changed once in ten weeks for each athlete. When the specialty of an athlete is changed the specific technical skills of that specialty are assigned randomly, independently from the values of his previous specialty, and slightly influenced by the moral of the athlete. It isn't possible to change the specialty of athletes that are 25 years old or older.
Send to training retreat
An athlete may be sent to a training retreat which allows him to train without taking part in a race of his specialty during the week. The retreat can be used only once in a season for each athlete and the cost corresponds to 80% of the MAXID of the athlete. Essentially it is like he has taken part in a race of his specialty but he doesn't gain the experience
Associate to a coach
With this menu you can select the coach you want to train the athlete. Remember that to receive the weekly training, athletes and coaches must have the same specialty and the athlete must compete in a race of his specialty at least once in the week.
Injuries
During a Competition an athlete may become injured, especially if he isn't in the proper psycho-physical condition for a race. This can happen when he has low values in form and Mood. The risk of injuries increases if the athlete takes part at more than one race in a day. The seriousness of injury is measured in days. This amount is influenced by factors such as the number of doctor present on your staff and the age of the athlete. Every doctor on your Staff will lower the healing time by 1 day for every 10 of injury. The older athletes will heal slower; specifically an athlete will need one day more of convalescence for every 2 years above the [age]] of 15.
